Located on the Opal Coast between Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer, Cap Blanc-Nez is one of the most iconic landscapes in Northern France. Rising 134 meters high, this striking white chalk cliff offers a breathtaking panoramic view over the English Channel, and on clear days, you can even spot the White Cliffs of Dover in England.
Designated a “Grand Site of France” together with its neighbor Cap Gris-Nez, Cap Blanc-Nez attracts nature lovers, hikers, and admirers of wide-open landscapes. Its marked trails, such as the GR120, invite you to wander through heathlands filled with marram grass, gorse, and spring poppies, and to follow the dizzying ridge that stretches out above the sea.
Along the walk, you’ll also encounter traces of history: remains from World War II, commemorative stones, and scattered bunkers on the cliff bear witness to the site’s strategic importance.
The area is also a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts: Nordic walking, paragliding, birdwatching migratory species, and not to forget the spectacular sunsets that set the sea and cliffs ablaze.
🌿 Visitor tip: bring comfortable shoes and a windbreaker, as the coastal climate can be unpredictable!
👉 In short: Cap Blanc-Nez is much more than just a natural site—it’s an invitation to travel between land, sky, and sea, where wild nature, history, and poetry come together.
Cap Blanc-Nez features several marked trails offering spectacular views and varied landscapes between land and sea. The famous coastal path (GR120) allows you to connect Cap Blanc-Nez with Cap Gris-Nez, a wild and unspoiled route full of natural discoveries.
Whether you are a long-distance hiker, passionate photographer, or casual walker, Cap Blanc-Nez invites you to relax and enjoy the scenery at every step.
Une randonnée immersive entre les deux caps, offrant des vues imprenables sur la Manche et des paysages variés.
Cap Blanc-Nez Beach is located in the commune of Escalles and was named the best beach in France in 2016 by Paris Match magazine. At low tide, it can be accessed via the “Cran d’Escalles”: the sea retreats several dozen meters, revealing an endless fine sandy beach with unobstructed views of Cap Gris-Nez.
It is also the starting point for beautiful walks. Along the GR120, which overlooks the beach from the cliffs, you can reach Wissant and Tardinghen, continue to Cap Gris-Nez, and further on to Audresselles and Ambleteuse.
